Big year? Feeling tired, and ready for a break, you aren’t alone.

There is a fresh wave of CoVid cases sweeping across corporate Australia, with leaders reporting higher numbers of absences following “positive” tests. Ongoing hybrid working conditions means that many can still work from home and minimise the amount of time they are off work, however teams and workplaces are still feeling the impact.

Generally speaking, lots of teams look very different these days. After years of wanting everything to go back to “normal”, I think it’s fair to say things are anything but normal, or maybe what we once considered normal has changed.

Some teams are hybrid, some are not, some people have the flexibility to work from home on fixed days, some do not, some choose to work in the office, others choose to work from home. The variables are endless and we are still learning what the impact means to individuals, teams, leaders and organisations.

One clear impact is the sense of belonging, and connectedness, and what it means to be part of a team, now playing out as we approach end of year celebrations. This year, many opting not to attend “in person” lunches, dinners, parties. The rule book is being rewritten, and that’s okay.

The work Christmas function is now very different, not better, not worse – just different, as individuals find their voice, and determine what they need rather than do what is expected.

Whatever working arrangement you have, however you feel about festivities, it is totally okay to pause, reflect and be grateful for the choices you have, the choices you make and the year that has been.

It’s been a big year: pause, reflect and be grateful.
